1 in 9 Persons Tested Positive for Infectious Disease in ICMR Study

Pathogens were detected in 11.1% of the 450,000 patients tested by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) labs to identify viral infections of public health significance. The top five pathogens found were Influenza A, Dengue virus, Hepatitis A, Norovirus, and Herpes simplex virus. The spread of infectious diseases increased from 10.7% to 11.5% in the first and second quarters of 2025, respectively. This rise underscores the importance of monitoring infection trends closely to prevent future epidemics. The ICMR report identified clusters of diseases like mumps, measles, rubella, dengue, and more during the study period.
