Since the beginning of the year, Iran has executed at least 841 people, sometimes in public. This alarming number has sparked criticism from the UN, which has described the executions as an ‘intimidation tool’ used by the state, ‘incompatible with human dignity’. The UN has strongly condemned the actions of Iran, highlighting the violation of human rights and the lack of respect for basic human dignity inherent in these executions. The public nature of some of these executions has raised concerns about the impact on society and the lack of regard for international standards of human rights.
