The White House debunked rumors on Saturday (30/8) that U.S. President Donald Trump was dead. A statement from the American government confirmed that the 79-year-old Republican is alive, contrary to speculation circulating on social media. A photo taken by reporter Andrew Caballero-Reynolds of the Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Saturday morning showed the president with his granddaughter, Kai Trump, at the Trump National Golf Course in Sterling, Virginia. The image confirms that Donald is not only alive but also well.
Several reasons fueled the rumors circulating on the internet about Donald Trump’s alleged death. One of them was the emptying of the president’s schedule for the weekend. Additionally, Trump had not made a public statement since Tuesday (26/8). Speculations grew when the American flag in front of the White House was lowered to half-mast, a traditional sign of mourning for a president’s death. Another issue was his health problems. Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency and has been seen in public since February with bruises on his body, mainly on his hands.
According to the government, however, his schedule suspension was due to medical advice. Trump was advised to rest. The flag at half-mast was lowered in response to the shooting in Minneapolis on August 27. An armed individual carried out the attack, killing two children and injuring 17 people at a church. This tragic incident prompted the flag’s positioning, not Trump’s health condition.
