Chinese President Xi Jinping harshly criticized on Monday the ‘intimidating behavior’ in the world order, while inaugurating a summit with foreign leaders in the city of Tianjin, northern China. The speech can be seen as a message to US President, Donald Trump. Xi urged leaders – including Vladimir Putin of Russia and Narendra Modi of India – to ‘defend equity and justice… oppose Cold War mentality, bloc confrontation, and intimidating behavior.’ The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is hosting a two-day summit with its ten member countries: China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus, in addition to 16 other affiliate countries as observers or ‘dialogue partners.’ China and Russia have presented the SCO as an alternative to NATO.
