Brazilian entrepreneurs on a trip to Washington met Wednesday afternoon with Christopher Landau, the number 2 at the United States Department of State, in an attempt to reduce the tariffs imposed on Brazil. According to sources, Landau mentioned that the American government is open to dialogue, but the tariffs imposed on Brazil are political and, therefore, discussing commercial issues would not be effective. He stated that all reasons for the additional 40% surcharge are explained in President Trump’s decree that implemented them, citing perceived injustices against former President Jair Bolsonaro and decisions by Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
