The United States Supreme Court has agreed on Tuesday (9) to review the legality of the global tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, paving the way for a decision that will define the future of a key piece of the Republican president’s economic agenda. The judges accepted the Department of Justice’s appeal against a lower court decision that deemed Trump to have exceeded his authority by adopting most of the tariffs based on a federal law intended for emergency situations. The case, involving trillions of dollars in customs duties over the next decade, was put on a fast track, with oral arguments scheduled for the first week of November. The Court also agreed to assess a separate lawsuit against the tariffs filed by the family-owned toy manufacturer Learning Resources.
