Bia started strong, breaking Zarazua’s serve in the second game, coming to the net a couple of times. Shortly after, the Brazilian opened a 3-0 lead after saving a break point by winning a rally that ended with a Mexican error. Bia narrowly missed extending her lead to 4-0, and the game quickly turned. Zarazua saved a break point in the fourth game and then saw the Paulista make four errors, conceding the break back. The match continued with ups and downs. Bia broke Zarazua again and served for the set at 5-3, but began the ninth game with a double fault and was broken as well. Zarazua leveled the score again (5-5). The decision only came in the tiebreak, which started poorly for the Brazilian. Bia made three errors in the first four points but recovered by winning beautiful rallies, tying the score at 3-3. With a forehand winner, she took a mini-break advantage, but Zarazua won another rally to equalize again (4-4). The Mexican reached the first set point (6-5) after an error from the home player and closed the set with another Bia backhand into the net: 7-6(5) after 1 hour and 16 minutes of play.
