7 Freeport Indonesia Workers Trapped Underground Due to Landslide for 9 Days, Communication Cut Off

Seven PT Freeport Indonesia workers in Mimika, Central Papua, have been trapped underground due to a landslide for nine days since Monday (8/9/2025). As of now, the rescue team is still continuing its efforts to carry out the evacuation process. Communication with the trapped workers remains cut off, making the situation even more challenging. The landslide occurred last Monday, trapping seven workers in a cavern of the underground mine. Since then, their safety has been a major concern for both the rescue team and the company. The intense rescue operations are facing difficulties due to the complex terrain and ongoing danger of further landslides. The trapped workers are believed to have limited supplies, increasing the urgency of the rescue mission. Relatives and colleagues of the trapped workers are anxiously awaiting updates on the situation, hoping for a successful rescue mission soon.
