The Governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), stated on Thursday (17) that he does not intend to run for the presidential election in 2026, but rather to compete for reelection. ‘I intend to run for reelection,’ said Tarcísio during a press conference in Araçatuba, São Paulo. Although he has stated several times that his goal is to continue in the São Paulo government, this was the first time Tarcísio emphasized that he does not intend to contest the Executive seat after Jair Bolsonaro’s 27-year and 3-month prison sentence by decision of the First Turma do Supremo Tribunal Federal, in the context of the coup plot.
