A group of approximately 100 pro-democracy activists from Eswatini gathered outside the U.S Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, on Friday to express their opposition to their country’s agreement with the U.S government. The activists were particularly concerned about the deportation of five immigrants from the U.S to Eswatini.
During the protest, one of the activists expressed their discontent with the deal, stating, ‘We do not want our country to become a dumping ground for deported individuals from the U.S.’ The group believes that the arrangement undermines their country’s sovereignty and democratic principles, leading them to take to the streets to voice their concerns.
The demonstration at the embassy aimed to draw international attention to the deportation deal and highlight the activists’ commitment to protecting Eswatini’s democracy.
