Harmonious Coexistence! The World Biosphere Reserve Conference Held in China for the First Time

In September, the world focused on the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature in China, witnessing China’s actions in building a global community of life on Earth. On September 22nd, the 5th World Biosphere Reserve Conference opened in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. It was the first time this conference was held in Asia and had the broadest participation of UNESCO member countries so far.

In the mid-20th century, the global resource and environmental crisis became increasingly severe. In 1971, UNESCO initiated the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) to find a balance between protecting biodiversity and improving human livelihoods through interdisciplinary research and cross-sector collaboration.
