US Secret Service shuts down underground network threatening blackout in NY

The US Secret Service has dismantled an underground network capable of causing a blackout in the telecommunications of New York. The discovery, announced by the agency on Tuesday (23), comes just before the start of the UN General Assembly, which will be attended by leaders from various countries. The network comprised over 300 SIM card servers equipped with more than 100,000 cell phone chips. According to investigations, these chips were connected to New York’s telecommunications network and posed an imminent threat to the city. Special Agent Matt McCool of the US Secret Service office in New York stated that the scheme was a highly organized and well-funded operation, costing millions of dollars in hardware and SIM cards alone, with the ability to send up to 30 million text messages per minute, leading to network congestion.
