In a critical moment for his government, the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, received an economic and political boost from Donald Trump after a meeting between the two in New York. “He’s been doing a fantastic job,” Trump said alongside the Argentine president. When asked if he would ‘bail out’ the Argentinian economy, Trump replied that Argentinians do not need that. ‘We will help them,’ he said. Trump was referring to the financial aid his government offered to Argentina on Monday (9/22), through messages posted by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on X, just before the opening of Wall Street trading. The Treasury Secretary stated that the US is ready to do ‘whatever it takes’ to support Argentina and that ‘all options are on the table’.

Why did Milei ask for help from the US to deal with the economic crisis?
