Cécile Kohler’s sister, who has been imprisoned in Iran since 2022, stated on Thursday that she remains cautious despite a ‘first positive sign in three and a half years’ after President Emmanuel Macron’s remarks on a ‘solid perspective’ towards a release of French detainees in Iran. In an interview with France 24 on Wednesday, Macron described a ‘strong outlook’ for the release of the French citizens held in Iran, whom Paris considers as ‘state hostages’, while also expressing his own caution. This comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure the release of the detainees, including French-Iranian researcher Fariba Adelkhah, who has been detained in Iran since 2019.
