Over 1.1 million Afghans forced back from Iran in three months, says Herat officials

Local officials in Herat have reported a significant increase in the deportation and forced return of Afghan migrants from Iran, as per Tolo News. Up to 5,000 Afghans are crossing the Islam Qala border from Iran daily, with more than 1.1 million Afghans being forcibly sent back in the last three months alone. The returnees cite economic challenges and discriminatory treatment in Iran as reasons for their forced repatriation. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid highlighted the need for a strategy to address the concerns faced by Afghan refugees deported from Iran.
