Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Dance Drama ‘Green Robe’, Wang Yabin Tells a Chinese Story with Her Body

12 years ago, writer Bi Feiyu entrusted the rights of the novella ‘Green Robe’ to dancer Wang Yabin. The novella tells the story of Xiao Yanqiu, a theatre lover who strolls through the world while gazing at the moon in the sky, exhibiting hysterical and selfish behavior. Wang Yabin vividly recalls the profound feeling when she received the rights to the novella, describing it as a ‘memorable moment’. Adapting one of Bi’s most outstanding works was one of the best encounters in her artistic career. She spent five months in rehearsals, working diligently to accurately portray the characters’ inner worlds through precise body movements and gestures. Collaborating with young playwrights who had returned from studying in the UK and a French dramaturg, she completed the stage script for the drama, inviting top creators and designers from China, France, the UK, and Poland to participate in crafting the production.
