Iran’s Parliament Prepares for Withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

After the E3 initiated the reimplementation of UN sanctions against Iran, the Iranian parliament is preparing a law that envisages the country’s withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). “Fifteen bills have been drafted regarding the NPT withdrawal,” stated parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, emphasizing Iran’s response to the renewed sanctions. This move comes as a response to the escalating tensions between Iran and the international community, particularly the United States, over Iran’s nuclear program. The decision to potentially withdraw from the NPT is viewed as a significant escalation in the ongoing dispute.
