Palmeiras’ midfielder Lucas Evangelista has ruptured the posterior tendon in his right thigh, requiring surgery and ruling him out for the season.
In the weekend’s match against Bahia, Evangelista felt the injury and was unable to stand to leave the field.
Further examinations by Palmeiras revealed a more severe injury than initially anticipated.
Lucas Evangelista was enjoying his best spell at Palmeiras, having claimed the starting position following Richard Ríos’ departure, leading Abel Ferreira to deploy Andreas Pereira in a more advanced role.
Due to the surgery, the minimum recovery time for the player is estimated at 3 months.
The average recovery time for a ruptured posterior tendon with surgical intervention is three to four months, as stated by Dr. Danyel Selleguim Laghi, orthopedic surgeon at AACD Orthopedic Hospital.
