Eduardo Bolsonaro clashes with Ciro Nogueira after being blamed for ‘huge damage’ to the right

Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) responded to the national president of the PP, Senator Ciro Nogueira (PI), after he blamed the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for causing electoral damage to the Brazilian right since he began his activities in the United States to try to save his father. The disagreement between the two politicians occurred with public messages exchanged on the X social network on Monday (13).

In an interview that aired on Sunday (12) on the Canal Livre program on Band, Ciro stated that the congressman’s efforts with President Donald Trump’s administration caused ‘huge damage’ to the right-wing ‘political project’ in 2026, compromising elections that were ‘completely resolved.’
According to the senator, supporting the tariff increase ‘was a mistake’ and ended up benefiting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Ciro is speculated to be a potential vice presidential candidate on a ticket with São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) – who publicly denies being a presidential candidate.
In response to the criticism, Eduardo wrote on X, addressing Ciro: ‘The damage was huge for your personal plan, one cannot confuse your interest with that of Brazil. I sympathize with your feelings, as it was also a great loss for me, the difference is that I am willing to sacrifice my personal interests for Brazil.’
Ciro replied to the congressman that he has no doubt ‘there was a huge personal sacrifice on his part.’ ‘Regarding me, be sure that I have not and will not suffer any personal losses. You know the distance between what they say about us and reality. I never wanted to be anything more than what I am. With a different way of seeing, what interests me is also Brazil,’ he stated.
Eduardo has resisted pressure for his father to appoint a successor and is working to be the candidate supported by Bolsonaro for the Presidency in 2026. The former president is ineligible and was convicted of attempted coup. The congressman, who is also facing charges in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and may become a defendant, is under investigation in the Ethics Committee of the Chamber, which could make him ineligible.
Internal clashes on the right, with disagreements between Bolsonaro’s sons and factions of the Centrão, have bothered leaders within the segment, who demand more unity and pragmatism. There is an assessment that the conflicts weaken the field and electorally benefit Lula. Eduardo has been fighting against opposition governors’ pre-candidacies and did not back down after his actions in the US were criticized.
