President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated on Saturday (18) that he will not tolerate any other country ‘speaking tough to Brazil.’ The statement comes amidst efforts to unravel the relationship with the United States, which imposed 50% tariffs on Brazilian products in August and sanctioned Brazilian Supreme Court ministers. ‘We want to form a Latin American doctrine, with Latin American students, so that we can dream that one day this continent will be independent, that never again will a president of another country dare to speak tough to Brazil because we will not accept it. It’s not a matter of courage, it’s a matter of dignity and character,’ said Lula.
