Resolution of Jihad and the Role of Santri in East Java in the Battle of November 10th

Surabaya – Every October 22nd, Indonesia commemorates National Santri Day as a tribute to the roles of scholars and students in defending independence. This commemoration is rooted in the historical events of 1945, when Hadratus Syaikh Muhammad Kholil Bangkalan issued the Resolution of Jihad in support of Indonesia’s struggle for freedom. The resolution called upon all Muslims to participate in the resistance against colonial rule. The spirit of unity and sacrifice displayed by the santri played a significant role in shaping Indonesia’s future.
