The Supreme Federal Court (STF) released on Wednesday (22) the ruling that convicted former president Jair Bolsonaro for attempting a coup and four other crimes. The text states that Bolsonaro was the leader of an armed criminal organization formed to restrict the Judiciary’s actions and prevent the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, elected in 2022. With the publication, the defenses of the former president and the other defendants have five days to file appeals with the Court. According to the document, the structure operated between July 2021 and January 8, 2023, with the participation of members of the then federal government and the military forces. Bolsonaro was sentenced by the First Panel of the STF on September 11 to 27 years and three months in prison for attempting a coup, criminal organization, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, qualified damage, and deterioration of a protected heritage.
