USA Announces Sanctions Against Russian Oil Companies in Pressure for Ceasefire

The United States has imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies on Wednesday (22), urging Vladimir Putin’s government to agree to an immediate ceasefire. Rosneft, Lukoil, and almost three dozen of their subsidiaries were affected by the decision. President Donald Trump had signaled for weeks that he might impose sanctions on Russia due to the war in Ukraine but had not taken significant punitive measures until now. ‘Now is the time to stop the killing and for an immediate ceasefire,’ said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a statement.
