Flood Risks in Northern States of India

New Delhi: The Central Water Commission reports that flood levels in the Indian Himalayan region, along with other water bodies, have increased by 9.24 percent in the past 14 years due to seasonal changes in the weather pattern. The commission, which is a national regulator under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, highlights the alarming rise in flood risks, affecting the entire country, especially the Northern States of India. Experts attribute this increase to various factors such as melting glaciers, heavy rainfall, and poor water management practices.
