President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated, in the early hours of this Friday (24), that the authorization for drilling wells in the Equatorial Margin does not contradict Brazil’s environmental commitments. He believes that tapping into these resources will not only boost Brazil’s economy but also contribute to sustainable development. Lula also mentioned the need for stricter environmental regulations to ensure that the exploration activities do not harm the delicate ecosystem of the region.
In response to concerns about Petrobras’ role in the exploration, Lula defended the state-owned company, stating that Petrobras has a long history of upholding environmental standards and investing in clean energy projects. He reiterated that Petrobras will continue to play a key role in Brazil’s energy sector while also embracing renewable energy initiatives.
