Volkswagen Closes the Door to Premium: Flagship SUVs Touareg and ID.5 Bids Farewell

The sad news comes from Germany: Volkswagen has confirmed the discontinuation of one of its flagships — the crossover Touareg. The model’s production will end in 2026, 24 years after its debut. Consequently, Touareg will make way for more premium models within Volkswagen’s lineup.

In addition to the Touareg, Volkswagen is also bidding farewell to the ID.5 SUV. This marks the end of an era for these high-end vehicles that have been part of Volkswagen’s history for many years.

The decision to cease production of the Touareg and ID.5 aligns with Volkswagen’s strategic shift towards more premium and electric models. By discontinuing these SUVs, the company aims to focus on the development and production of next-generation vehicles with advanced technologies.

Volkswagen’s move reflects the changing landscape of the automotive industry, with an increasing emphasis on electric mobility and premium segment offerings. While the Touareg and ID.5 have been beloved by consumers, the decision to discontinue them reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Despite the end of Touareg and ID.5 production, Volkswagen assures customers that it will continue to offer a diverse range of vehicles, including its upcoming electric models. The discontinuation of these SUVs marks a new chapter in Volkswagen’s history as it looks towards a more sustainable and technologically advanced future.
