Bolsonaro is a thing of the past, and Trump knows that when one king dies, another rises, says Lula after meeting with American

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that he spoke with Donald Trump about Jair Bolsonaro, emphasizing that the former president is part of Brazilian political history. The leaders of Brazil and the United States met in Malaysia to discuss tariffs and sanctions against Brazilian authorities. Lula mentioned that he told Trump that with three meetings, he would realize that Bolsonaro was insignificant. The former president also highlighted that it was untrue what was said about Bolsonaro’s trial in a US letter justifying the taxation on Brazil.

Lula explained to Trump that the trial was very serious, with compelling evidence. He mentioned the severity of the attempted actions in Brazil, stating they had a plan to harm him, his vice president, and Alexandre de Moraes. Highlighting that the evidence presented was based on the defendants’ testimonies, not opposition evidence, Lula emphasized that they had a fair trial with a defense grant, contrasting his own trial experience.

Before their meeting started, Lula and Trump briefly spoke to the press. When questioned about Bolsonaro, Trump expressed sadness regarding the circumstances surrounding the former president. The meeting between Lula and Trump marked a new chapter in negotiations between the two countries, focusing on tariffs imposed by the US on Brazilian exports.

This encounter was the first official meeting between the leaders to discuss tariff issues, following previous phone conversations and a brief interaction at the UN General Assembly in September. Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira declared the meeting positive, with Lula advocating for tariff suspension during negotiation. The dialogue between Presidents Lula and Trump represents a significant step in bilateral relations, paving the way for further discussions on economic matters.
