Member of Commission VIII DPR RI, Ashari Tambunan, asks travel entrepreneurs not to panic about the legality of independent umrah. According to Ashari, this policy aims to make the umrah industry ecosystem healthier, more transparent, efficient, and professional. ‘This regulation actually provides legal certainty for all parties. Entrepreneurs should not panic,’ said Ashari in his statement in Jakarta, Monday (10/27/2025), quoted from Antara. According to Ashari, the umrah market in Indonesia still requires professional services. From spiritual guidance, accommodation provision, to technical assistance. ‘The difference now is that people have more diverse choices,’ said Ashari. The former Regent of Deli Serdang urges umrah travel entrepreneurs to positively respond to this regulatory change. He encourages Umrah Travel Organizers (PPIU) to transform. ‘A resilient travel company is one that can innovate, strengthen quality standards, ensure pilgrims’ safety, and be transparent in costs,’ he emphasized. This change demands businesses to shift from just selling packages to providing value-added services that prioritize the security and comfort of the pilgrims. He stresses that Independent Umrah does not mean without rules but requires greater responsibility from all parties. Ashari also highlights various issues that have plagued umrah management. Such as weak supervision, short-term business orientation, and lack of protection for pilgrims facing disputes or failed departures. Therefore, he emphasizes the importance of comprehensive reform in the umrah organizing system. ‘We need an integrated supervision system that covers visas, accommodation, and transportation. No more ‘selling cheap, uncertain departures,” he asserted. ‘Umrah reform must start with honest and measured business arrangement,’ continued Ashari.
