Major General Yousef Maayouf Saeed Al Hallami, Commander of the United Arab Emirates Land Forces, arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a two-day official visit from October 27-28, the Ministry of Defence said in a release on Monday. This high-level visit aims to strengthen bilateral military cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration, especially in training and capability enhancement, showcasing the commitment of both nations to deepen their defence partnership. Maj Gen Yousef Maayouf Saeed Al Hallami received a briefing on Operation Sindoor and India’s defence capabilities, including the Artificial Intelligence roadmap. Additionally, he will visit the National War Memorial, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and meet with Indian Defence Industries to discuss mutual concerns.

Concurrently, the Indian Navy is preparing to commission its indigenously built Survey Vessel (Large), Ikshak, at Naval Base Kochi on November 6, 2025. The vessel’s induction underscores the Indian Navy’s dedication to advancing its capabilities and self-reliance, showcasing the nation’s expertise in indigenous hydrographic excellence. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd, Kolkata, with over 80% indigenous content, Ikshak will serve as a vital asset for hydrographic survey operations, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions, and emergency hospital services, reflecting the Indian Navy’s inclusive approach towards a modern fleet.
Ikshak, the first SVL ship with dedicated accommodation for women, symbolizes the Indian Navy’s commitment to inclusivity and innovation. Her name, meaning ‘The Guide,’ represents her mission to navigate uncharted waters, ensure safe passage for mariners, and uphold India’s maritime strength. The vessel’s commissioning ceremony, led by Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff, will mark a milestone in the Indian Navy’s quest for advanced naval platforms and self-reliant capabilities, steering towards a future-focused maritime strategy.
