Major operation attempts to arrest 100 CV members in Alemão and Penha (RJ)

Police officers from the Civil and Military forces are carrying out a major operation in the Alemão and Penha complexes, in the North zone of Rio de Janeiro, on Tuesday (28). The operation, named Operation Containment, is part of a State Government initiative to combat the territorial expansion of the CV (Red Command) and arrest criminal leaders operating in Rio and other states. The officers are trying to execute 100 arrest warrants against CV members – among the targets, 30 are from other states, with a focus on faction members in Pará, who are believed to be hiding in these regions. As of the latest update, nine people had already been arrested. Additionally, two suspects from Bahia were killed in the confrontation, and two other injured men are under custody at the Penha Hospital. The police also seized two rifles, a pistol, three cell phones, and nine motorcycles. According to the State Civil Police Department, the operation is the result of over a year of investigation conducted by the DRE (Narcotics Repression Department), which obtained arrest warrants and search warrants from the Judiciary. The operation involves around 2,500 agents from the state security forces. The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro state mobilized teams from the COE (Special Operations Command) and battalions from the capital and metropolitan region. The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro state is participating with agents from specialized and district police stations, CORE (Special Resources Coordination), the Department for Combating Money Laundering, and the Intelligence Subsecretariat. Governor Cláudio Castro stated that the operation demonstrates the integration of security forces and the strengthening of the State’s presence in conflict areas. Operation Containment also has technological and logistical support, including drones, two helicopters, 32 armored vehicles, and 12 demolition vehicles from the Special Operations Support Center of the Military Police. Ambulances from the Rescue and Rescue Group were positioned to assist in case of emergencies. The Alemão and Penha complexes comprise 26 communities and are considered strategic in the territorial dispute between criminal factions. The execution of the warrants is expected to continue throughout the day at different points in the two regions.
