October marks the peak of monsoon in Maharashtra. The formation of ‘Monya’ cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal has significantly impacted the weather in the state. Coastal areas in the Konkan region have been witnessing continuous rainfall for the past few days, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts.
The southern part of Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday, leading to waterlogging in several areas and disruptions in some parts of the electricity supply. Today, the city and its suburbs are expected to receive strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour and heavy rainfall as per the forecast by the weather department. The afternoon is likely to bring cloudy skies, with the possibility of intense showers in some areas during the evening.
Thane and Navi Mumbai have been facing continuous heavy rainfall for the past two days. Following Tuesday’s downpour, traffic movements were slow in several areas. Once again, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for these areas, with wind speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour and heavy rainfall predicted. Citizens are advised to take precautions when stepping out of their homes.
Palghar district has also been experiencing sustained heavy rainfall for the past few days. While some rural areas have rivers reaching their full capacity due to rainfall, certain urban regions have reported waterlogging on roads. Today, the district has been put on a yellow alert as well, with wind speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour and the possibility of heavy rainfall and storms as indicated by the weather department.
