LONDON, Oct 29 (Reuters) – The UK deported an Ethiopian asylum seeker who was wrongly released from prison after being convicted of sexual offences that sparked anti-immigration protests. Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, 38, received a 12-month sentence in September for assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman. He was released by mistake on October 24, triggering a three-day manhunt and his subsequent deportation. Interior minister Shabana Mahmood expressed determination in removing him from the UK, labeling him a ‘vile child sex offender’. Mahmood acknowledged the error that led to Kebatu’s release, eliciting public outrage.
