Nissan, Zeekr and Tesla: The Hottest Electric Car Brands in Russia

The Russian market for used electric cars is experiencing steady growth. According to the agency ‘Autostat’, in September 2025, the country saw a total of 1629 used electric cars sold, which is a 16% increase from the previous month and a 50% jump from September 2024, setting a record for the year. Nissan remains the leader in the secondary market, with Japanese brand cars accounting for 34% of all sales (547 units). The Chinese brand Zeekr followed in second place with 276 units sold, and Tesla rounded out the top three with 192 purchases. The top five also included ‘Moskvich’ (96 units) and Volkswagen (89 units). The most popular model predictably was the Nissan Leaf, with 529 units sold, followed by the Zeekr 001 (193 cars) and ‘Moskvich 3rd’ (96 units). Overall, the majority of used electric cars came from Japan (36%), followed by China (29%), and the USA (12%). In the first nine months of 2025, Russians purchased nearly 9.8 thousand used electric cars, a solid 18% increase from the previous year, indicating a confident return to growth in the ‘EV’ market.
