The Grand Egyptian Museum is set to open to the public on November 4, 2025. While some sections like the Main Gallery, Great Hall, Grand Staircase, and Retail Spaces with restaurants and shops were already open to the public, the Tutankhamun Gallery and Solar Boat Museum will be officially opened during the grand opening. It was closed from October 25, 2025, to November 3, 2025, to ensure all preparations for the grand opening are done efficiently. Let’s find out what makes it so special for people to include in their travel plans.
Known as the largest archaeological museum in the world, the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum began in 2002, and almost two decades later, this grand museum is finally opening to the public. Located right next to the Giza pyramids, this place has become a blend of history and modernity.
The main attraction of the Grand Museum is the King Tutankhamun Gallery, dedicated entirely to the famous pharaoh whose tomb was discovered in 1922. Approximately 5,000 artifacts related to King Tut will be displayed, including his golden mask, jewelry, clothes, and personal belongings. What makes it unique is that almost 60% of these items are being exhibited for the first time, never showcased before.
Another major attraction is Khufu’s Solar Boat, which was unearthed near the pyramids of Giza. It is believed that this boat was made for King Khufu’s journey to the afterlife. Preserved with special techniques, the boat is now showcased in a modern way, representing ancient Egyptian religious beliefs and engineering skills.
Since the announcement of the Grand Museum’s opening, there has been a surge in hotel bookings, flight searches, and travel package demands in Cairo. Several international tour agencies have included this museum as a main attraction in their ‘Egypt Tour Packages’. Hashtags like GrandEgyptianMuseum and VisitCairo are currently trending on social media. People are considering it not just a museum but an experience of the blend between ancient civilization and the modern world.
