Egypt set to unveil long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum

With much pomp and circumstance, Cairo is due to inaugurate on Saturday the long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum, widely presented as the crowning jewel on authorities’ efforts to overhaul the country’s vital tourism industry. Perched with a panoramic view of the Giza pyramids plateau, the GEM boasts thousands of artifacts spanning over 5,000 years of Egyptian history. After more than two decades in the making, the ultra-modern museum expects to welcome five million visitors annually, showcasing never-before-seen relics. Egyptian media and officials have lauded the opening as a ‘historic moment’ and ‘Egypt’s gift to the world.’
