Stranded Radioactive Shipment off the Philippines Coast

More than 20 containers of radioactive zinc have been sitting off the Philippine coast for over a week, prompting the need for a swift solution, as stated by a nuclear official on Friday. Traces of Caesium-137 were found in the containers in Indonesia, which later rejected and shipped them back to the Philippines. The containers have been stuck in Manila Bay since October 20. The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) is urging for a fast resolution to secure a location for disposal, according to PNRI director Carlo Arcilla. He mentioned that radiation levels are not critically high, but a proactive approach is necessary.
