Ovechkin Gets Upset After a Poor Series. And Turns on Beast Mode!

On the night of November 1, the Washington Capitals will face the New York Islanders. Fans are expecting the NHL’s top sniper to shine after a lackluster season start. Throughout Alexander Ovechkin’s career, there have been similar instances where, after a slow start, he transformed into a scoring machine.

The start of the 2025/26 season hasn’t been the most successful for Alexander Ovechkin in terms of goals. With only two goals in 10 games, there’s uncertainty about when the Russian will find his form. However, it’s worth noting that in the 2008/09 season, Ovi also had just two goals after 10 games, and couldn’t improve his performance in the 11th game.

After breaking a goal drought against the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 11, Ovechkin continued to score in subsequent games. His team defeated Carolina 5-1, where he contributed with a goal and two assists, and then beat New Jersey 3-1 with a goal and an assist.

Following a win against Anaheim, where Ovechkin scored and assisted thrice, his point streak took a brief pause. Still, the league recognized his successful November by naming him the second star of the week. Alexander ended the month as the first star.

The 2008/09 season was a memorable one for Ovechkin, scoring 56 goals in the NHL regular season and earning the MVP title. Despite Washington’s modest Stanley Cup performance, Ovechkin shone by scoring eight goals and providing six assists in the series against Pittsburgh.
