Egypt unveils world’s largest museum dedicated to its ancient civilisation

Cairo inaugurated the Grand Egyptian Museum, the world’s largest museum dedicated to its ancient civilisation on Saturday. Located near the Giza Pyramids, the museum showcases over 50,000 artefacts detailing life in ancient Egypt. World leaders, including monarchs and heads of state, attended the grand opening ceremony in the Egyptian capital. President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi called it ‘an exceptional event in the history of human culture and civilisation.’ The museum is part of a series of megaprojects aiming to revive Egypt’s economy. The museum’s 12 main galleries exhibit antiquities spanning from prehistoric times to the Roman era, organized chronologically and thematically.
