Great Egyptian Museum Inaugurated: Boosting Tourism and Economy

Egypt inaugurated the long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum on Saturday, located near the Giza Pyramids. The museum, boasting over 50,000 artifacts, is the largest of its kind dedicated to ancient Egyptian civilization. World leaders attended the grand opening, emphasizing the museum’s significance for human culture. President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi highlighted the blend of ancient Egyptian genius with modern Egyptian creativity, creating a new cultural landmark.

The museum is part of a series of megaprojects launched by el-Sissi to rejuvenate Egypt’s economy. The grand opening ceremony was shrouded in secrecy, featuring a musical performance described as a ‘global symphony of humanity.’ Security measures were tightened in Cairo, with the museum undergoing final preparations for the public opening on Nov. 4.

Surrounding infrastructure improvements were made to enhance access to the museum, including a new airport and metro station. The museum’s unique design, inspired by the pyramids, offers an immersive experience for visitors. With 12 main galleries showcasing artifacts from various eras, the highlight is the Tutankhamun collection, including the boy pharaoh’s iconic golden mask.

The opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum marks a crucial step in Egypt’s tourism sector recovery. Anticipated to attract 5 million visitors annually, the museum aims to contribute significantly to the country’s GDP. The ultimate goal is to welcome 30 million visitors yearly by 2032, fostering economic growth and creating job opportunities in the tourism industry.

Tour guide Walid el-Batouty emphasized the wide-reaching economic benefits of increased tourism. Every tourist visit, whether to the museum or local establishments, contributes to Egypt’s economy. With an expected boost in foreign currency, the museum is a key driver for Egypt’s economic revival and global cultural influence.

Scheduled to open on the anniversary of Tutankhamun’s tomb discovery, the Grand Egyptian Museum’s impact extends beyond preserving Egypt’s ancient treasures. It serves as a beacon for cultural heritage preservation, economic development, and global tourism promotion.
