Man arrested at airport for smuggling ‘endangered’ apes in his bag

Two gibbons, an endangered species native to Indonesia, were found concealed in a passenger’s bag after he landed in Mumbai. Customs officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were shocked to discover the rare creatures on October 30. The two gibbons, believed to be only a few months old, were concealed in a basket placed inside a trolley bag. One of the animals later died, according to reports.
