Their previous RPL loss was against Rubin Kazan on April 12 (0-1). Zenit extended their unbeaten streak in the RPL to 10 matches. Their only loss this season was against Akhmat Grozny in the fourth round. Zenit climbed to second place in the RPL table with 29 points, while Lokomotiv dropped to fourth place with 27 points.
