Bope video shows confrontation with traffickers in Rio

During the operation on Tuesday (28), four police officers died. One of the videos shows the rescue of a Bope officer shot in the leg. The black mask he wore served as protection against gas bombs thrown by the battalion at the criminals. The officer was hospitalized but has since been discharged. Another image, captured by a drone, shows the moment a gas bomb is thrown at a group of criminals trying to hide. These are areas where getting help is even more challenging due to barricades made from burnt-out car bodies. An armored vehicle had to tow the obstacles. According to the Civil Police, all 117 bodies at the Forensic Institute have been examined. Of these, 109 have been identified and 99 released to their families. Of the 69 individuals indicted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the investigation leading to the mega-operation, five have been arrested. Red Command leaders, such as the trafficker Doca, are still at large. Out of the total of 113 arrested during the police action, two were released after the custody hearing. In the Penha neighborhood, where both complexes are located, residents are now striving to restore normalcy. Traditional spots like the Penha Church and the amusement park were deserted this weekend. A local shop owner mentioned poor sales on the commercial promenade. They believe that in a few days, activity will return to normal. However, it will be difficult to forget what has happened.
