Sudan Seeks Help from Russia Due to Loss of City and Famine

Sudan is facing a humanitarian crisis after losing control of El-Fasher city. The country seeks increased aid from Russia to address hunger and disease outbreaks. The city had been under siege for over a year and a half before falling to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Hunger, disease, and mass exodus of civilians were direct consequences of the blockade, stated Sudan’s ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Sirraj.

The ambassador highlighted the scale of the humanitarian crisis, emphasizing how armed groups had used hunger as a weapon in El-Fasher for over a year and a half, spreading starvation, disease, and exhaustion among the population. Khartoum’s key demand is to exert pressure on the RSF to facilitate access for humanitarian convoys to affected areas and provide food, water, medicine, shelter, mobile hospitals, and medical staff. The ambassador underscored Russia’s reliable support to Sudan since the beginning of the crisis, backing the country’s legitimacy, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity through international organizations, especially the UN Security Council.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over reports of widespread human rights violations in El-Fasher and called on those responsible for the situation to take measures to protect the civilian population. Sudan relies on international support to address the urgent needs of those affected by the crisis, emphasizing the critical importance of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the population. The country is counting on Russia’s collaboration to ease the dire situation in El-Fasher and prevent further deterioration of conditions.

Russia’s assistance is crucial in providing aid to Sudan as the country navigates the aftermath of losing El-Fasher city. The government in Khartoum seeks Russia’s continued support to ensure the delivery of essential supplies and medical assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis. Sudan’s plea for help underscores the pressing need for immediate action and coordinated efforts to mitigate the suffering of civilians caught in the conflict in El-Fasher.

The international community must step up to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan following the loss of El-Fasher. Russia’s support is critical in providing relief to those affected by the conflict, including access to food, water, and medical supplies. Cooperation between Sudan and Russia is vital to address the immediate needs of the population and prevent further escalation of the crisis in El-Fasher.
