Doctor A. Khan debunked the common belief in the benefits of vitamin C for colds. In an interview with the Daily Mirror, he talked about a more effective alternative. According to the doctor, vitamin C is indeed a powerful antioxidant that helps combat inflammatory processes. However, there is no scientific evidence of its effectiveness for coughs and colds. The doctor believes that the myth of the benefits of vitamin C is fueled by advertising campaigns from cold medicine manufacturers. Meanwhile, zinc has shown more pronounced effects in studies. The doctor noted that zinc shortens the duration of the illness more effectively than vitamin C. This mineral is found in poultry, red meat, dairy products, grains, whole grains, and legumes, with the highest amounts discovered in oysters, added the expert.
