President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia loses US$ 8 billion per year, approximately Rp 132.8 trillion (at an exchange rate of Rp 16,600), due to online gambling. To address this issue, Prabowo emphasized the need for international cooperation. “It is estimated that Indonesia loses around 8 billion US dollars each year due to the outflow of funds caused by online gambling,” Prabowo said during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) at the Hwabaek International Convention Centre (HICO) in Gyeongju, South Korea, as quoted by detikFinance on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Prabowo highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening digital education and skills for the community, especially for UMKM business owners. “We want to participate in all APEC initiatives aimed at enhancing capacity in technology and education. We also aim to empower small businesses and strengthen our healthcare system to face demographic changes,” Prabowo stated. Prabowo emphasized that technological mastery is key to the nation’s progress and can only be achieved through close collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region. “I believe this is the direction we should take in the future. We must ensure control over our technological future, and I am confident that through cooperation within APEC, we can achieve this goal,” Prabowo concluded.
