Elize, who was sentenced to nearly 17 years for her husband’s murder in 2012, grew close to Sandrão during a cold night when they shared a mattress to keep warm. Their bond led to a relationship, with reports varying on its duration. According to Veja São Paulo’s 2014 article, the two were together for three days.
Sandrão, however, emotionally connected with Suzane, her coworker at the prison’s sewing factory. She then parted ways with Elize to start dating the woman who orchestrated her parents’ murder. The prison has a commitment agreement, lacking legal validity, serving as an internal marriage of sorts to allow couples to visit the designated area. Suzane and Sandrão signed this commitment, enabling them to access the couples’ space in 2014.
Sandra played a pivotal role in persuading Suzane to negotiate TV interviews. Gugu Liberato’s show agreed to pay Sandrão $120,000 for an interview with Suzane, who reportedly only received $100,000, unaware of Sandrão’s $20,000 commission. Gugu gifted Suzane three sewing machines during the interview to help her restart her life post-prison, recognizing her sewing skills in Tremembé.
The machines ended up with Sandra’s brother after their 2016 split since Suzane had no place to keep them outside jail. This gift sparked a dispute as Sandrão, now in semi-open detention, refused to return the machines, claiming credit for convincing Suzane to speak to Gugu. Suzane demanded them back, intending to use them for a sewing studio upon release, valued at $12,000 at the time.
Suzane has been on parole since 2023, married with a child born in January 2024, residing in São Paulo’s countryside while studying law. Elize was granted parole in 2022 and currently works as a driver for a ride-hailing app in São Paulo’s countryside.
