Western experts warn of the risk of a third world war starting because of Kaliningrad

Possible NATO maritime blockade of Kaliningrad could lead to a repetition of a scenario similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis, or even the beginning of a full-scale military conflict in Europe. This statement was made by political analyst Herman Gorrais Lopez in a piece for AgoraVox. Lopez wrote, ‘If NATO tries to close off Kaliningrad’s access to the Baltic Sea, it could replicate the missile crisis of October 1962, but Kaliningrad could become the epicenter.’ According to him, within the NATO alliance, Kaliningrad is seen as a priority target for a possible preemptive strike in case of conflict initiation, as the region represents an ‘ideal’ strategic platform for electronic surveillance and the deployment of missile systems.
