Nikolas alleges ‘indoctrination’ and tries to change classes about climate crisis

Deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) complains about ‘indoctrination’ in education and argues that the curriculum of Brazilian schools should change to include a ‘multiplicity of viewpoints’ on climate change. He wants this change to be included in the law that defines the country’s education. The National Education Plan (PNE) is set to be voted on in Congress and will determine the content of lessons in schools and universities for the next ten years. Nikolas criticizes what he calls a lack of neutrality in education, aiming to avoid indoctrination and ensuring that schools present data, methods, and uncertainties responsibly, distinguishing science from activism, according to an amendment he introduced to the plan. He believes this will prepare students to make decisions based on evidence, preserving neutrality and pluralism.
