15 Mountaineers Missing After Avalanche in Nepal: What is Known

In Nepal, an avalanche occurred near the base camp of Yalung Ri peak. 15 mountaineers, including guides, are unaccounted for. This information was reported by The Kathmandu Post. ‘The group, consisting of both Nepali and foreign climbers attempting to climb Mount Dolma Khang (6,332 meters), was in the avalanche area around 09:00 local time (06:15 GMT). Their condition remains unknown,’ quoted a local police representative Gyan Kumar Mahato. Yalung Ri Himal is a mountain in the Rolwaling Valley in Nepal, situated at an altitude of about 5,630 meters. It is a popular trekking spot among beginners, offering relatively easy mixed routes. Morning rescue operations had to be postponed due to flight restrictions in the region. Efforts are currently underway to locate the missing individuals. Helicopters have been dispatched to the avalanche site. There are no Russians among the missing, as confirmed by TASS through the Russian Embassy in Kathmandu. Updated at 17:40 (GMT).
