Russian Figure Skater Breaks World Record: Olympic Gold in His Pocket

The Grand Prix stage in Saskatoon, Canada, was significant for all figure skating. World champion and planet record holder Ilya Malinin received scores that no one had ever achieved. This Russian lad with an American passport is already a frontrunner for the Olympic gold. Ilya Malinin has completely dominated for the past two years, winning every competition he enters. His impeccable performance at the Canadian Grand Prix began flawlessly.

In the short program, Malinin scored over a hundred points as usual (104.84). The second-place Kazuki Tomono from Japan fell almost 13 points short of the leader. With such a lead and moderate competition, Malinin didn’t need to take risks in the free skate. However, as a world champion, performing at full strength is his trademark. He executed six clean quadruple jumps and a spectacular backflip. Phenomenal! An extraordinary score of 228.97 points and a total of 333.81 points brought Malinin the gold in Canada.
